Venture further south, and you’ll encounter the sweeping moorland of High Moor and the scenic beauty of Goyt Valley to the west.
Nestled in the valley below Shutlingsloe lies the charming village of Wildboarclough. Once home to one of the largest post offices in the region, this close-knit community is steeped in history. The remnants of an old mill and water-powered carpet works stand as a testament to its industrial past, while an intriguing legend claims that it was in Wildboarclough that the last wild boar in England met its fate. As you wander through the village, you’ll discover architectural gems such as the grade 2 listed Crag Hall, which was built in 1815, and the exquisite St. Saviours Church, a remarkable structure constructed between 1901 and 1909.
